Rebecca DeWitt, the director at the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen whose home base is located on the 300 Block of North Queen Street, was surrounded by art her entire life.

That passion learned early in life and a career in nonprofit administration made DeWitt the perfect candidate for the Guild, which has been in existence since for 73 years. At 1,700 members, the group is the seventh-largest guild in the country.

The guild’s gallery space at 335 N. Queen St. offers the works of more than 100 of its members and is a destination for shoppers looking for quality handmade products. It is also offers workshops and produces vendor fairs throughout the region.

“We are a hidden treasure,” told LNP in a recent profile. “The PA Guild has been promoting fine craft locally, regionally and nationwide since 1944. We have this great downtown Lancaster location as our state headquarters and have diversified our programs to include a robust educational program featuring many of our crafts people.”
